"For centuries, we’ve asked ourselves: What keeps us apart?” says director Ciro Guerra. “Now it is time to ask what brings us together." Following a 3,000-mile journey in northern Colombia, and shot beautifully in widescreen format, this film is the story of Ignacio Carrillo’s travels with his accordion, a legendary instrument said to be cursed because it once belonged to the devil. Ignacio is skillfully played by celebrated Vallenato songwriter Marciano Martínez, whose real life mirrors the portrait painted in this story. Along the way, Ignacio is joined by Fermín, a teenager who dreams of becoming a traveling musician like Ignacio, but destiny has different plans for the reluctant teacher and his student.
